Remembering Walter Cronkite
Walter Cronkite, one of the best known and most respected newsmen in America's history, died July 17 at the age of 92. Cronkite anchored "The CBS Evening News" from 1962 to 1981, leading the program to dominance over other networks' broadcasts and delivering news on issues from the Kennedy assassination to Watergate to the Iran hostage crisis.
CBS vice president Linda Mason said Cronkite died at 7:42 p.m. after a long illness, and that his family was by his side, according to the Associated Press.
