Shriver received numerous awards during her life. In 1984 Ronald Reagan presented her with the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her efforts with the developmentally disabled.

Shriver held a commemorative silver dollar minted in her honor for her Special Olympics work in Philadelphia in 1995.
