Kennedy spoke on Capitol Hill about the Fair Minimum Wage Act on Jan. 30, 2007.
The legislation, which Kennedy helped pass, increased the minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25 over a two-year period.
Although the raise marked the first adjustment in the minimum wage in 10 years, Kennedy wasn't satisfied. Days after the first increase went into effect, he began pushing for a $9.50 minimum wage.
