Today is National UFO Day if you haven’t noticed, and apparently New England is a UFO hot spot.

Based on data from the National UFO Reporting Center, the Pacific Northwest and upper New England spotted the most UFOs per capita in the United States, according to Vox.

Vox made an out of this world map illustrating UFO sightings per 10,000 people throughout the United States, showing that New England, particularly Maine and Vermont, have their fair share of reports.

Since the National UFO Reporting Center started collecting data, people in Massachusetts have reported 1,496 UFO sightings. Check out the report for detailed descriptions of the sightings, shape of the UFO, duration and city.

Some highlights from the list include:

- “I am nine years old and I was sitting outside with my mom after a party. I sighted a medium size fireball in the north sky my mom saw it all so it was slow moving and I saw it for a good 3 to 4 seconds.”

- “Large ‘thing’ at tree top level over power lines emitting rays of light from many openings/windows, glowing, red & yellow.”

- “Bright ‘twinkling’ light appeared to be stationary and faded significantly during ~20 minutes of observation.”

- “Was driving and saw two circular unidentifies objects zooming past my field of vision.”

The National UFO Reporting Center, though they did collect data prior, stated that it is “the web’s most comprehensive and up to date UFO information source. Provided by America’s foremost UFO Reporting Agency In continuous operation since 1974.”

The Economist also made a graph of American’s UFO sightings by hours of the day, reporting that the majority were during “drinking hours.”

Washington State has the most reports with 4,712.
