BELOIT, Wis.—An Illinois woman and her son-in-law have discovered thousands of dollars hidden after a 2004 bank robbery in Wisconsin.

Carol Markin, 60, of South Beloit, Illinois, was cleaning an empty apartment for her employer when she found a speaker box. Her son-in-law, Travis Gosa, 31, said Markin's employer gave her permission to take the box home and she gave it to him.

Gosa said he noticed a rattle and opened the box. He found dye-covered bills and a gun inside.

Beloit police said they believe the money is from a June 2004 robbery at the First Federal Bank. Officers back then, followed the robber to the area where Markin was cleaning the apartment. They didn't find the loot, but they later tracked down the robber.

Dwellie Sheko of Glenwood, Illinois, was sentenced in 2005 to five years and three months in prison for the robbery and ordered to pay back $7,995.
