These things are so devastating. Accidents happen all the time, but I don't know what it is about this and the Challenger loss that make them, for me, so crushing. What these astronauts do is innately good and undertaken at great personal risk. Maybe it's what they represent, the idealism, the hope, and the desire to know and learn things that speak to the very core of our existence. When these men and women die in their efforts to contribute, it's like all those qualities die, as well, a little bit in all of us.

Cynthia, Holden

This being the biggest tragedy since 9/11, its a huge sadness. I feel a sense loss for the families and only hope that the space program is able to continue and learn from this horrible event.

High technology space vehicle crashes over Texas. Texan President leads hi-tech army to war. Is there any math to do here?

Mar, Maynard

God bless all those families that lost a loved one in this tragedy.

Jeff, Auburn, NH

A tradegdy that will be remembered forever. My thoughts and prayers go out to their family and friends. May they Rest In Piece....

Rob, Boston

At the event of such a horrible tragedy, it's nauseating to read someone using it as a cheap political punchline. This is hardly the time or forum for such smug invectives. Have some decency and respect for the dead and their families.

Bryan, Cambridge

God Bless the astronauts and their families.

Dave, Danvers

Just tears.

Pat, Walpole

I am very sorry for the loss of the seven brave astronauts today. They were among the best and brightest. They are a loss for space exploration and the advancement of scientific knowledge. They are the world's loss. In Sympathy, Jane Binkerd

Jane, Waltham

Ya, sure the president is to blame for this disaster? Perfect time to put two cents in about removing evil dictator who wants to kill us.

David, Maynard
