My heart and prayers go out to these seven brave, admirable astronauts and all of their family and friends. When I heard the news, a strange sensation filled my body and I was reminded of September 11th and the 1986 shuttle explosion of the Challenger. I know that people die every day in this world--and their stories are not any less sad or tragic--but to imagine these seven people risking their life to go up into space and explore the unknown, and how they were so close to making it home...it just breaks my heart. I hope whereever these people are right now, they know that they all died as heroes in our eyes. Rest in peace.

God Bless the seven adventurers the WORLD lost today. Once again we as Americans come together to morn a national tragedy. These souls will remain forever in our hearts and memories. Others will follow in their footsteps without hesitation to carry on their legacy. Prayers and sympathy to the astronauts' families and their extended NASA family. Once again the United States will rise from devastation and continue on to harbor the intelligence from the unknown frontiers. GOD BLESS AMERICA !!

While reading some of these posts, a feeling of sorrow overcomes my being. Unfortunately I also feel disgusted and embarrassed by some of the brainless individuals who decided to make light of this event. For those of you who decided to use this forum as a means to make a political statement against US policy, shame on you. Yes, you have the right to voice your opinion in this free society and so do I. This message board was created to discuss the tragic Columbia disaster and the human life that was lost yesterday morning. My prayers go out to those who passed away. My heart breaks for the children and family members who will no longer be able to hug their father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, friend or family member. I would also like to reach out to the people of India and Israel. You both have lost a daughter and son as we have, and I would like to wish you all my heartfelt condolences. I hope you can take solace in the thought that these brave astronauts were working to help human kind. Their fundamental mission was for the betterment of all human life, regardless of our differences. Their passing was not in vain. They will never be forgotten. God bless them and their families.

I too am struck by the signifigance both space disasters i've lived during, has had on my psyche. I'm not a space buff I didn't eagerly await the take off and landings. As a jaded 20 something...my awe had started to fade. It's a shame it takes something like this to refocus my admiration and awe at the people who lead us into the future. My thought and feelings go out to the families and those left behind. hopefully their loss can be assuaged by the knowledge that their loved ones died leading mankind and doing something they loved.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the astronauts and to the rest of the country as we greive the seven heroes who loss their lives for their country. As a sailor stationed in Mayport Florida, I recall our squadron watching as the Challenger rose into the sky and the disintegrated before our eyes. It was just a deep feeling of loss even though you may not have known them personally. My best to us all.
