Acts of patriotism
Last Tuesday's terrorist attacks have prompted an outpouring of nationalist sentiment on a scale not seen since World War II. What is the most original or inspiring display of patriotism you've witnessed over the past week?
In the last week I have seen children of all ages (ranging from Kindergarten to High School) standing on the sides of the streets waving flags and banners. Most of the passing cars beep in response. It is wonderful to see children involved in a positive way after such a terrible event.

My 9-year-old and my 5-year-old running in the house with their neighborhood friends to ask if they could come in and make American Flags. The answer was yes. The conversation at the table was beautiful, innocent, and all too real.
-Alison, Haverhill
In order to wear red, white and blue on Friday my friend Samm stayed most of Thursday night to paint the flag on a T-shirt. It was beautiful. Where the starts usually are on the flag she put the words: United We Stand. ... And Don't You Dare Forget It. I loved the beauty of her painting and the strength of those words.

While riding the commuter rail on Friday evening, a beautiful rainbow appeared in the sky between Bridgewater and Lakeville. It was a perfect most peaceful sight to see. It made me think that God is watching over us and that everything would turn out okay. Then, while driving from the train station to my home, I saw people coming out of their houses holding candles and waving flags. The whole scene brought tears to my eyes. God Bless America!

I went to a vigil in Tewksbury center on Sunday night. I could not believe the number of people that came to support the count
-Sean, Tewksbury
The acts of heroism on Flight 93 in Pennsylvania, are the most remarkable acts of patriotism I've seen in my lifetime, never mind the last week.
-Frank, Milford
I could not pinpoint the MOST original or inspiring display of patriotism because every display of patriotism I have seen has been very original and very inspiring. I have never witnessed such patriotism throughout an entire country and it is great to see everybody getting together and supporting their country like this.

My boyfriend and I drove past a young boy standing on the side of the road in Salem who was holding a small, handwritten sign that read, "Honk if you love America." We honked the whole way day the street.

When I heard of a RI radio station and furniture store having a supply drive. In one night, hey collected 7 53-foot trucks full of supplies and had buses of volunteers to unload the supplies in NYC. When the caravan pulled away people sand God Bless America and held candles. There were also people on the highway overpasses with candles to send them off. DJ's said they have never seen such a sight.

At church on Sunday, the organist needed a little more time for the collection to be completed and played "My Country 'Tis of Thee"
