Acts of patriotism
Last Tuesday's terrorist attacks have prompted an outpouring of nationalist sentiment on a scale not seen since World War II. What is the most original or inspiring display of patriotism you've witnessed over the past week?
All of the handmade memory ribbons people are wearing, similar to the ribbons for breast cancer but in red white & blue instead of pink.

By far most patriotic act I know of has to be the brave passengers of United Airlines Flight 93 that fought back against the highjackers and died in the plane crash in Pennsylvania rather than let it crash into the Capitol.

Two things. North Attleboro's downtown has flags from one end to the other. The second is from our friends in England. Playing "My Country 'Tis of Thee" for the changing of the guards was very moving.

The most inspiring patriotism i have seen are groups of people discussing rationally how killing large groups of foreign civilians (in Afghanistan for instance) will do absolutely nothing to avenge last week's deaths in the US, or prevent future terrorist attacks here.

The best act of patriotism that I have witnessed over the past week is the display of the American flag on vehicles and trucks as they pass on all roadways. The display of the flag on all bridges and roads throughout New England. The way Americans have come together is how we will win over this act of terrorism.

I think the most inspiring display of patriotism and courage is the ability to shut off your TV every once in a while and reflect inwardly of all that has happened. The TV stations are once again playing the sensationalism role by offering the "exclusive" footage all the time. Is CNN covering this properly or watching their ratings levels? Is there anyone in MSNBC who has NOT checked how many people have been watching. I don't care too much for exclusive footage in a place where people could very well be still alive. I know the chances are slim but in my mind, a person with two hands free can do a hell of a lot more than someone carrying a camera. Larry King asks the most stupid questions. "What was going thru' your mind?" Can America for once grieve themselves and not by the help of NBC or ABC etc?

The most inspiring act of patriotism, for me, was the Wall Street and former workers of the World Trade Center returning to work. The strength this takes is inspiring.

Driving home on the southeast expressway last Friday, a tow truck was stopped at a turn-out at Furnace Brook Parkway in Quincy and raised the largest U.S. flag I've ever seen. Everyone was honking their horns as they passed. I found this very touching.
