More tickets available for final

Associated Press, 07/06/99

LOS ANGELES - Women's World Cup organizers put several thousand additional tickets on sale for the final between the United States and China, raising capacity for Saturday's game at the Rose Bowl to about 90,000.

After a seat survey of the stadium on Tuesday, World Cup organizers discovered between 3,000 and 5,000 more seats.

The tickets, which were not in prime locations, sold for $45 apiece.

"We're putting these seats on sale to accommodate the many fans who were unable to buy seats before,'' Richard Finn, a spokesman for the U.S. organizers, said.

On Monday, organizers said the game was a sellout and more than 85,000 were expected.

Before the final in Pasadena, Norway plays Brazil in the third-place game.

The crowd expected Saturday would be a record for a women's sporting event, Marla Messing, president of the organizing committee, said. The current record is 78,972 for a World Cup doubleheader at Giants Stadium on June 19.
