THE RACE: The presidential race in Arizona.

------

THE NUMBERS:

John McCain, 40 percent

Barack Obama, 30 percent

------

OF INTEREST:

More than a quarter of the respondents, 28 percent, said they were undecided. "It will be interesting to see if the Obama campaign chooses to campaign heavily in Arizona," said Bruce Merrill, poll director for KAET-TV and the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University. The same poll had a 10-point spread between McCain and Obama in June, as well, but with 34 percent undecided.

------

The Cronkite/Eight Poll was conducted Aug. 14-16 and included telephone interviews with 402 registered voters. It has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.
