ST. PAUL, Minn.—Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani has gone before the Republican National Convention to declare that Sen. John McCain is the man the people should trust to lead the country at a dangerous time in its history.

Giuliani said that McCain "has been tested time and again in crisis" and said that even his adversaries acknowledge that he is "a true American hero."

Giuliani was among a host of Republicans who sought the GOP presidential nomination, only to see McCain emerge earlier this year as the unquestioned front-runner.
