RESUME HIGHLIGHTS
Palin was sworn in as Alaska's first female governor on December 4, 2006 as a political reformer. She is the first woman to run on a Republican presidential ticket, and the first Alaskan to run on a presidential ticket. Before becoming governor, Palin was mayor of Wasilla, with a population of about 6,700. She served as chair of Alaska's Oil and Gas Conservation Commission and supports drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve. Palin is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. She opposes abortion rights.
