Hirshberg is one of the biggest Democratic fund-raisers in the country and the only one of such stature in New Hampshire. Many in Washington credit him for helping former New Hampshire governor Jeanne Shaheen and Howard Dean get their starts and for keeping his candidate Tom Vilsack in the race much longer than expected.
