Henniker Democrats
Scenic Henniker is located in Merrimack County, within commuting distance of both Concord and Manchester. It is the home of New England College and the ski area Pat's Peak, which are the town's largest employers. Henniker's 4,867 people average 33 years of age. The median family income is $59,500. This makes the town younger and slightly richer than the state average.
Henniker has voted 5 to 8 percentage points more Democratic than New Hampshire as a whole in recent elections, although enrolled Republicans actually outnumbered Democrats 28 percent to 26 percent in 2006. The remaining 46% of voters are independents, who tend to back Democratic candidates by a significant margin.
The town supported John Kerry over George Bush 58% to 42% in 2004, and Al Gore over Bush 50% to 44% in 2000. It gave Democrat Paul Hodes a 12-point margin in his defeat of Republican incumbent Charlie Bass for New Hampshire's 2nd District US House seat in 2006.
