The Making of Mitt Romney
The Boston Globe
Hannah Hood Hill Romney was the first of Miles Park Romney's five wives. She bore him 10 children, including Gaskell Romney, the grandfather of Mitt Romney. Mormon leader Brigham Young told Romney, 'Brother Miles P., I want you to take another wife.' As Miles prepared to marry again, Hannah wrote that the thought of sharing her husband with another wife caused her 'to walk the floor and shed tears of sorrow,'' but she accepted plural marriage as a religious duty.
