When is Election Day?

The Senate primary election in Massachusetts is Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009 (registration deadline Wednesday, Nov. 18). The general election is Tuesday, Jan. 19 (registration deadline Wednesday, Dec. 30). Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. both days.

Who are the candidates?

The Senate candidates are:
DEMOCRATS
  • Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley
  • Congressman Michael Capuano
  • City Year co-founder Alan Khazei
  • Celtics co-owner Stephen Pagliuca
REPUBLICANS
  • Republican State Senator Scott Brown
  • Republican lawyer and businessman Jack E. Robinson

Do I need to bring an ID?

While most voters will not be asked to show an ID, you may be asked to show an ID if you are listed as an inactive voter. Election wardens may also perform random ID checks.

Are bilingual ballots available?

All precincts will have ballots written in English and Spanish and ballots fully translated in Chinese and Vietnamese will also be available.

Interpreters will be available to assist voters in Chinese (both Mandarin and Cantonese dialects), Vietnamese, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, and Russian as well as other languages. In addition, there will also be audio recordings of the ballots in English, Spanish, Chinese, and Vietnamese.
