HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Democratic U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy is holding a six percentage point lead over Republican Linda McMahon, according to a new Connecticut Senate race poll.

The survey by Quinnipiac (KWIHN'-uh-pee-ak) University, released Wednesday, shows Murphy has the support of 49 percent of likely voters, compared to 43 percent for McMahon.

Poll Director Douglas Schwartz said the race remains fluid because 11 percent of Murphy voters and 14 percent of McMahon voters said they might change their minds. But he questioned whether McMahon has ‘‘hit her ceiling’’ in the final stretch. Murphy has gained ground with women and older voters.

The survey of 1,412 likely voters has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2.6 percentage points.

It also shows President Barack Obama leads Mitt Romney by 14 percentage points.end of story marker
