Republicans out of the race for president
US Representative Michele Bachmann of Minn.The morning after finishing sixth in the Iowa caucuses on Jan. 3, the representative from Minnesota said she was ending her bid for the GOP presidential nomination.
Bachmann's announcement capped a deep and long slide for a candidate who entered the campaign in the summer of 2011 with very high expectations. There was great excitement among Republican activists when she began her campaign, and she translated that into a solid win in the Iowa straw poll on Aug. 13. But as the campaign moved forward, Bachmann ran into a series of organizational and financial hurdles.
