    The Massachusetts Governor's Council, also known as the Executive Council, is composed of eight individuals elected from districts every two years, and the lieutenant governor who serves ex officio. The council meets weekly to vote on gubernatorial appointments such as judges, clerk-magistrates, public administrators, notaries, justices of the peace, and members of various boards. It also reviews warrants for the state treasury, pardons, and commutations. In the Fourth District, which is split between Boston and the south suburbs, Stephen F. Flynn of Hull is challenging incumbent Democrat Christopher A. Iannella Jr. of Boston in the primary.
