US SENATE CANDIDATES ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL
Five men are seeking to fill the remainder of John F. Kerry’s term in the US Senate. The field will be winnowed to two after the April 30 primary. The candidates seeking their party’s nomination are Democrats Ed Markey and Stephen Lynch, and Republicans Gabriel Gomez, Mike Sullivan, and Dan Winslow.

Former US Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez, a Republican candidate, stopped by the Duxbury Senior Center during lunch on April 29, the day before the primary election.
Earlier in the day Gomez stopped at a restaurant in Marshfield, where he spoke with Judy Stowell (right) of Pembroke as Patricia Buotte of Wareham looked on.
Former US attorney Mike Sullivan, another Republican candidate, stopped by the East Bridgewater Fire Department, where he spoke with acting Chief Timothy Harhen (center), and firefighter Lieutenant Keith McCartney.
Another stop for Sullivan was Peaceful Meadows Ice Cream in Whitman, where he shook hands with Charlie LaDue of Rockland.
State Representative Dan Winslow of Norfolk, the third Republican in the race, spoke with customers at a hardware store in Mansfield.
Winslow also stopped at Craig’s Cafe in Quincy, where he spoke with customer Norman Tuttle.
Representative Ed Markey, a Malden Democrat, campaigned at North Station during the morning commute on April 29. His competitor for the Democratic nomination, Representative Stephen Lynch, did not campaign the day before the election; he said he was feeling ill.

Representative Stephen F. Lynch, a South Boston Democrat, greeted constituents April 28 after the Dedham Little League opening day parade, including Hannah, 8, and Nick Wilcox, 10, of Dedham. Lynch’s congressional district includes Dedham.
Markey spoke with Richard Johnson on April 28 after an event at Doyle's Cafe in Jamaica Plain.
Gomez greeted cook Paul LaPierre and owner Casey Beksha on April 27 at the Up Town Pub in Franklin.
Sullivan high-fived Judy Rodolakis, 7, at Davidian Brothers Farm in Northborough on April 27.
Dan Winslow introduced himself to Kerry Quintiliani (right) of Lynn during an April 27 campaign stop at Red's Kitchen & Tavern in Peabody.
