SAN ANTONIO—Democratic Rep. Solomon Ortiz says he'll ask for a manual recount after losing a South Texas seat he's held for nearly three decades by less than 800 votes.

Unofficial results from the Secretary of State's Office show Ortiz trailed Republican Blake Farenthold by 799 votes after Tuesday's election. The margin closed to 792 when some previously uncounted votes were certified Thursday.

Ortiz says in a statement late Friday that he's putting together the necessary documents to request a re-count in Texas' 27th District.

He says "just in the first days of counting, we've seen uncounted votes appear."

Under Texas rules, he'll have to pay for the re-count unless it affects the election's final outcome.
