Nomination papers for Waltham’s Nov.8municipal election are in, and there are several contested races. Mayor Jeannette McCarthywill face 22-year-old Andrew Wirth. Ward 8 incumbent Stephen Rourke is running against Albert Damon Bakalis while Ward 5 incumbent Gary Marchese will face Lillian Santangelo. There are eight people running for five councilor at-large seats: incumbents Sally Collura, Kenneth Doucette, Diane LeBlanc, Kathleen McMenimen, and Thomas Stanley face challengers Joseph Vizard, Sarah Hankins, and Edward Sazo. Only one race requires a preliminary election to whittle down the field and that’s the School Committee, for which seven contenders are hoping to win one of three seats. Incumbents Margaret Donnelly and Stephen Rando are running against challengers Alice Taylor, David Matayabas, John Frassica II, Edmund Tarallo, and John Graceffa. The preliminary election, needed when there are twice the number of candidates for available seats plus one, will be Sept. 20. - Megan McKee ![]()
