Romney launches national campaign
Stresses economy in moving forward as GOP nominee
Mitt Romney on Tuesday night came back to the state where his campaign began nearly 11 months ago, now as the almost-certain Republican nominee and preparing for a vigorous battle with an incumbent president. After months of tense election nights, spent waiting for voters to have their say in a volatile Republican nominating contest, the results Tuesday night were predictable. Romney was expected to win all five contests - in New York, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Connecticut - with the Republican Party essentially crowning Romney as their nominee.
