City Councilor and mayoral candidate John Connolly today rolled out translations of his full mayoral platform in seven languages.
The translations – in Spanish, Kriolu (Cape Verdean), Vietnamese, Albanian, French, and Chinese, as well as English – are the most extensive foreign language outreach by any of the dozen mayoral hopefuls thus far.
“Boston is at its best when we invite everyone to participate,” Connolly said in a statement. “Our campaign has committed to communicating with voters in several languages and I hope to do the same as Mayor.”
The election, the first open mayor’s race in two decades, includes six minority candidates with has spurred heavy efforts by many of the candidates to win over and mobilize voters in minority communities.
Many of the candidates have released campaign materials in multiple languages, especially Spanish, but none of the others appear to have put their full platform out in the number of languages in which Connolly released his today.
Last month, councilor Felix G. Arroyo – the only Hispanic candidate in the race – released a 30-second Spanish-language ad that aired for four weeks on Telemundo and Univision.Wesley Lowery can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. Follow him on Twitter @WesleyLowery.
