On most weekday mornings, Donna Litz approaches the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge the way most people approach the dentist's chair. Not so yesterday.

"Oh, my God," she rejoiced as she was about to enter the new Central Artery tunnel. "The traffic is much lighter than usual. I can't believe this. I wish I had this every day."
Litz, 41, a licenser for the state Office of Child Care Services, usually leaves her Salem home at 6 a.m. and arrives at her office in Quincy Center at 7 a.m. At that hour, it's a trouble-free commute until she gets to the Zakim, where traffic slows to its routine crawl.
Yesterday, anticipating delays, Litz left home 15 minutes early and arrived to work at 6:30 a.m. -- a half-hour earlier than usual.
"This was pretty good," she said. "If this is how it's going to be this week, I'll be pretty happy."
