Text of Ed Gillespie's speech

The following are remarks by Ed Gillespie, Chairman, Republican National Committee, as prepared for delivery at the 2004 Republican National Convention:

For the first time ever we meet in New York City -- one of the greatest cities in the world -- to highlight the proud history of our Party, the strong record of our President and his positive agenda for our future. Our proceedings will mirror President Bush's commitment to fulfilling America's promise by building a safer world and more hopeful America. We are proud of our achievements, but we know that elections are more about the future than the past. We are going to honor the courage of our nation, the compassion of our people and the promise of our future. We will talk about the new challenges we face as a nation and new policies to address them. We will present a positive agenda for our future that will expand our Republican majority in the Senate, expand our Republican majority in the House, and expand our majority of Republican governorships. And, we will nominate George W. Bush and Vice-President Richard B. Cheney for four more years! And we will leave here with momentum that will carry us to victory in November!
