Text of Bill HarrisCEO of the 2004 Republican National ConventionAs the 38th Republican National Convention commences, it is an honor to address you on behalf of the staff and volunteers whose hard work and dedication have brought us to this historic moment.
We have assembled a group of people that mix the best attributes of experience and youthful new energy all of which combine to create this unique environment. This team has transformed Madison Square Garden, the world's most famous arena, into a truly remarkable stage for the Republican Party to showcase its positive agenda for the future. I am particularly proud of the unique podium you see behind me which will give maximum visibility to our talented array of speakers. You will see things you have never seen at a Republican Convention before as we bring our program to the American people. After many long hours, we are now set to host an anticipated 50,000 delegates, alternates, party officials, and members of the media. We started over a year and a half ago with a vision, not only to put on the best Republican Convention ever -- but to create a truly national event, one that energized and involved the entire country and created the momentum to lead the President to victory in November. We have gone farther and done more than any other convention to reach people all around the country. From Compassion Across America, a nationwide community service project, to sign painting projects throughout the region, to a robust website operation, we have involved people who would not otherwise be able to help in the effort to re-elect George W. Bush. We are now ready for and excited to hear President Bush and Vice President Cheney share their optimistic vision for the future with the American people. I would like to thank the citizens of the Empire State, whose far reaching support will make this an outstanding event for the city and resonate in communities throughout the nation. New York exemplifies the greatness of America that its strength and vibrancy is the result of numerous cultures and nationalities combining to form a stronger whole. What better backdrop for a national convention than New York City the most energetic and diverse city in the nation. I would like to recognize and thank New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg who has been an incredibly gracious host and partner. In addition, all Republicans owe a special debt of gratitude to Governor George Pataki, and former New York City Mayors Rudy Giuliani and Ed Koch for their tremendous help and support.
On behalf of the entire Convention team, welcome to the 38th Republican National Convention. |
