Text of Fernando MateoPresident, Hispanics Across AmericaThank you. I want to thank President Bush for lifting the lives of immigrant families.
Over the past four years, he has welcomed immigrants to our shores and given us more hope and opportunity to care for our families, start small businesses, and contribute to our communities. In the next four, he will remain a leader of deep conviction and compassion and courage. Our President has proposed reforms to our immigration laws that will match willing foreign workers with willing American employers, when no American can be found to fill the job. The program will offer legal status, as temporary workers, to millions of undocumented men and women, allowing them to come out of the shadows and escape abuse and exploitation. And it would allow these immigrants to visit their families in their own country. President Bush speaks through action. And we need action in the next four years. We need a leader that believes in giving opportunities to those that are willing to work for a living. Our President cares and speaks our language, so on behalf of our immigrant community.
