boston.com News your connection to The Boston Globe

Well, we can’t say we didn’t ask for it. We asked you to be our eyes and ears around town during the week of the DNC, helping us track the movements of all the celebrities and famous people who came to town. Thanks to all of you paparazzi-in-training out there, the response was almost overwhelming. Sure, we ended up publishing some submissions that probably weren’t real, but we also saw a lot of sightings that we thought might be fake but were later confirmed. Who knew? (You did, apparently.)
Here’s a summary of the week that was:
    - Number of emails you sent us: More than 1,000
    - Number of photos you sent us: 93
    - Number of combined Bill, Hillary or Chelsea Clinton sightings: 76
    - Numer of Ben Affleck sightings: 35
    - Number of Michael Moore sightings: 28

    - Number of celebrities sighted at the Ritz-Carlton: 12
    - Number of times a celebrity was reported to be on the T: 4
    - Number of the four Baldwin brothers sighted: 3 (Alec, William and Steve)
    - Number of times actor Alan Cumming was reported with his dog: 2

    - Number of times a celebrity was reported to be at IHOP: 1
    - Number celebrities reported to be rude, insensitive or mean: 0
    - “People” who might not really be people: Santa Claus, Barney Rubble, Bigfoot, Triumph the Insult Dog
    - People you “saw” who are no longer alive: Elvis, Babe Ruth, George Peppard
Bigfoot
Other curious and intriguing nuggets:
Kevin Bacon, he of “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” fame, would seemingly have been one of the most “connected” people in town this week. But every time we heard about him, he was always with Kyra Sedwick (his wife) and no one else.

Many of the reported sightings incorporated references to decidedly B-list shows, the kind you might find on VH-1’s “I Love the 80s”: “Saved by the Bell,” “The A-Team,” “The Dukes of Hazzard,” “Blossom,” “Knots Landing,” “Benson,” “Webster,” and “Full House.” And, because no list would be complete without a reference to “The Goonies,” we got one of those too.

Bill Simmons, better known as “The Boston Sports Guy”, personally emailed us to repudiate the “sighting” someone had submitted claiming that Simmons was on Newbury Street this week. Thanks for setting the record straight, Bill.
As for the rest of you, thanks for all your submissions, and we hope you had as much fun reading them as we did. Our city may have returned to normal, but keep your eyes open and those cameras at the ready.
