Jim Webb
The pitchThe Virginia senator, former Navy secretary, and Vietnam vet offers a sterling national security resume. In addition, he could potentially help swing his home state, which traditionally votes red, to the Democrats.
The downside
Webb recently said he wasn't interested in the vice presidency, which would seem to put him out of the running. Additionally, Webb worked as Navy secretary under President Ronald Reagan, and Obama may want someone with more traditional ties to the Democratic Party.
