Ed Rendell
The pitch
The governor of Pennsylvania and former mayor of Philadelphia commands a strong institutional base that could help Obama in a valuable swing state.
The downside
Rendell has said some Pennsylvania voters may not pick Obama because of his race -- a statement not likely to endear him to the Democratic nominee. Rendell also supported Clinton and he lacks any experience in Washington or on foreign policy.
