The pitchWith Texas no longer the automatic red win, the senior Texas senator could help sew up the state for McCain in the general election. The first-ever Republican woman elected to the state legislature and the first female elected to the US Senate from Texas, she could woo some Republican or moderate women, especially if Hillary Clinton is the Democratic candidate.
The downside
Hutchinson said as recently as mid-February that she wasn't interested in leaving her Senate seat. McCain also may opt for a more conservative candidate, or a governor or administrator who doesn't have a Senate voting record his rivals can examine.
