
McCain was administered to a hospital in Hanoi while he was a prisoner of war in the fall of 1967. McCain, who was the son of the admiral who commanded US forces in the Pacific at the height of the Vietnam War, is reluctant to talk about his years as a POW today. But he told the Associated Press, "I faced in Vietnam, at times, very real threats to life and limb. But while my sense of honor was tested in prison, it was not questioned."
