In the 2006 gubernatorial race, Murkowski's campaign tried to make Palin's past drug use an issue. The Anchorage Daily News quoted her as saying, "I can't claim a Bill Clinton and say that I never inhaled.'' She added that marijuana was legal in Alaska when she smoked it in her youth (it is now outlawed again). She added that she didn't like it and doesn't smoke it now.
