The couple eloped after Palin graduated from college and they recruited two residents from a nearby elderly persons home to serve as witnesses.Todd, a part Yup'ik Eskimo, works for British Petroleum, is a champion snowmobiler and has won the 2,000-mile "Iron Dog'' race four times.

Palin's fifth child, Trig (at left) was born April 18, 2008, with Down syndrome, a genetic abnormality that impedes physical, intellectual, and language development. Their oldest of her five children, Track, is scheduled to be deployed to Iraq later this year.
