Her rise
As a former city council member and mayor in Wasilla, she cut property taxes and even her own salary. She quit as ethics commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Committee in 2004, filing complaints of legal violations and conflicts of interest against Republican leaders and two fellow commissioners, including one of the state's attorney generals. Both resigned.
