Hillary Clinton listened to a question from an undecided voter on Jan. 7 in Portsmouth, N.H., a day before the state held its primary.

After finishing third in Iowa the week before, Clinton's campaign appeared to be struggling. Polls leading up to the New Hampshire primary showed Obama surging ahead in the state, which Clinton's campaign had described as her "firewall."
