A perspective on Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis

Avoiding publicly speaking about her thoughts and feelings, former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis has remained one of the era's most mysterious figures.
After last week's release of interviews with the former first lady, Boston Globe's Rob Anderson conducted a Q&A with Ellen Fitzpatrick, historian and author of the 2010 book "Letters to Jackie: Condolences from a Grieving Nation."
Conducted as an online conversation via e-mail, the discussion allows readers to gain Fitzpatrick's perspective about the tapes, which were conducted by historian and Kennedy aide Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr. in the spring and early summer of 1964.
Former President John F. Kennedy and the former first lady sailed in this file photo from Dec. 7, 1963.
