This was the son Joseph Kennedy Sr. always envisioned becoming president. Instead, Joseph P. Kennedy Jr., the oldest of nine children, was the first in a line of tragic Kennedy deaths. Kennedy was attending Harvard Law School before leaving in 1942 to attend Navy flight school. Kennedy died Aug. 12, 1944, in the skies over England after his bomb-laden plane exploded mid-air, killing him instantly. He was just 29. Four years later another Kennedy child, Kathleen, was killed in a plane crash in southern France.
