Romney trails Clinton by six percentage points

By David Dahl, Regional Editor December 14, 2006 03:34 PM

A new LA Times-Bloomberg poll has US Sen. Hillary Clinton losing to John McCain in a potential 2008 match up and leading Mitt Romney by just 6 percentage points.

McCain led Clinton 50-36, the poll said. Clinton led Romney 42-36, which is surprising because Romney was largely unknown by those questioned.

According to the poll, "John Kerry, who as 2004 Democratic presidential nominee has arguably been under the brightest national
spotlight of any of the possible candidates, has the highest negative ratings, at 34%. Even so, his positive rating is still a respectable 58%. Kerry is also more popular among those who identify with Democrats–his negative rating goes up to 44% among independents and his approval drops to 52%.''
