Patrick continues to garner national attention

By Matt Viser, reporter January 10, 2007 06:22 PM

He was on CNN earlier today. Now this: Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, is coming to shake hands with Governor Deval Patrick. They will meet for the first time on Monday, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

"Governor Patrick's win was a historic win, and Martin Luther King Day is a good time to celebrate that," said Amaya Smith, spokeswoman for the DNC, who confirmed Dean's visit.

Dean will be in town for several events, starting with an MLK breakfast at the Boston Convention Center. Later in the day, Dean is planning to go to Faneuil Hall for the city's MLK Day event, where Patrick is the keynote speaker.

It will be the first meeting between Dean and Patrick, according to Smith, but Patrick's grassroots campaign that shocked the establishment has been compared to Dean's similar run for the 2004 presidency.
