Romney launches Spanish ad

By Scott Helman, Political Reporter March 6, 2007 04:44 PM

Continuing his early maneuvers on the airwaves, Mitt Romney today launched his first Spanish radio ad, which began airing in South Florida.

The ad features Al Cardenas, a former chairman of the Florida GOP and a leader of Romney's presidential campaign efforts in Florida, telling voters that "this great nation needs a new dawn," and that Romney, who "rescued" the 2002 Winter Olympics and "turned around" Massachusetts, was the right man to lead it. "The leader that could bring us hope is Mitt Romney," Cardenas says in the ad.

Cardenas also seeks to reassure Cuban-Americans, a reliably Republican bloc with great influence in Florida, that "Mitt Romney understands the dynamic of Cuba."

Romney, who is making a major play for Florida in the Republican primary, will be in South Florida Friday for a GOP dinner. Romney last month became the first major presidential candidate to air TV ads in New Hampshire and Iowa.
