Happy birthday! Love, the vast right-wing conspiracy

When Bill Clinton sent an email earlier this week asking supporters to wish his wife a happy birthday -- she turns 60 tomorrow -- the message also went to a group of Republicans in New Hampshire. Last we checked, they weren't out looking for a gift.

"It's the right season," said Republican activist Fran Wendelboe, who got the message. "What could be scarier than getting emails from Hillary and Bill?"

Alas, this wasn't the first frightful note from Hillary Clinton's campaign to land in the inbox of some Granite State conservatives. Last week, they got one thanking them for being involved in her campaign, which the recipients took as a joke. "Not a single Republican candidate can provide America with the clean break and fresh start we so urgently need," Clinton wrote, offering a "special gift" of a free "Hillary for President" bumper sticker.

So are these emails some kind of prank? A mistake? An illustration of how Clinton, enjoying a yawning gap in the polls, is focused on the general election?

A Clinton spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
