Romney lobs more verbal grenades at Clinton

By Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor October 29, 2007 07:56 PM

Another TV appearance for Mitt Romney, another slap at Hillary Clinton.

Romney doesn't mince any words in an interview airing on "Hannity & Colmes" tonight on Fox News Channel, saying in so many words that the Democratic front-runner would ruin the country by creating a weaker military, weaker economy, and weaker family structure.

"I think America would not remain the great nation it has always been if she were the leader, and that's because this is such a critical time," he said, according to excerpts provided by Fox. "And despite being a very lovely person, I think she's just fundamentally wrong in the course that she would set for America."

Romney, continuing a line of attack from the Republican debate this month, said that Clinton "hasn't run anything, and the government of the United States is not a place for a president to be an intern. You need to have experience actually leading and running things."

Asked for a response, the Clinton campaign issued a statement from Ann Lewis, senior communications adviser:

"Hillary Clinton is a two-term United States senator who has represented the United States in 82 countries around the world, and has been one of the nation's leading advocates for children and families for 35 years. Trying to diminish her service isn't going to help Mr. Romney's weak and rudderless campaign."
