Kucinich takes different path

By Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor November 28, 2007 11:00 AM

Count on Dennis Kucinich to be the contrarian in the Democratic presidential field.

Fellow Democrat Joe Biden started airing a new TV ad in Iowa this week that quotes his rivals Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Barack Obama, and Bill Richardson saying nice things about Biden's national security and foreign policy stands.

Not so much for Kucinich, who issued a statement saying that Biden is wrong on major issues, including the Iraq war and homeland security measures, and if the other candidates agree with him, they're wrong, too.

"There's a reason that Congressman Kucinich was the only candidate deliberately excluded from the ad blitz," his campaign said in a statement. "Joe Biden knows, and the other Democratic candidates know, that Dennis Kucinich doesn't walk their line.

"If voters are dissatisfied with the Biden tweedle-dums and tweedle-dees, they should vote for someone who represents their beliefs and their values."

Kucinich, who has called for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney for what he calls their trampling of civil liberties and the Constitution, has failed to gain much traction in the race, polling in the single digits.

  1. If all he did was call for the impeachment of Cheney and Bush, I would vote for him. He's the only candidate who would actually change the status quo in Washington. With the rest of them, we'll get exactly what we deserve: corporate control of the media, wars, unchecked corruption, and assorted methods of mass distraction.

  1. You modified the headline to include "takes swipe at Biden" but are not printing comments yet. How come?

  1. Dennis Kucinich is an honest candidate. I have so much respect for him. I hope Americans will wake up & vote based on their conscience not on "popularity aka electability" issue. Dennis Kucinich is ELECTABLE, all we have to do is VOTE FOR HIM & SUPPORT HIS CAMPAIGN. Thank you.

  1. Biden wants to split Iraq into three regions. We know what happened when the same was done in Palestine and in India.

Dennis Kucinich has a powerful base of supporters that include activists, intellectuals, college students, and those who have shed the myth of corporate sponsored electability based on high priced dinners.

He has my vote and everyone I know!
