Past allies hit Romney
Who were once friends are now enemies.
That could be the refrain for Mitt Romney, who is the target of ads financed by two groups made up of past supporters who say they feel betrayed by his move to the right on social issues.
In a new radio ad airing in New Hampshire, a Republican gay rights advocacy group accuses Romney of flip-flopping on taxes -- a charge his campaign denies. The ad by the Log Cabin Republicans asserts that as Massachusetts governor, Romney raised taxes on businesses. He says he closed tax loopholes to help plug a budget deficit.

The Massachusetts affiliate of Log Cabin Republicans endorsed Romney for governor in 2002 after he, according to the group, to stay neutral in the fight over gay marriage. But after the state's highest court legalized same-sex marriage, he led the effort to pass a constitution ban. He now favors a federal constitutional amendment to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman.
Earlier this week, a Republican group that favors abortion rights unveiled a TV spot and newspaper ads that will run in Iowa and New Hampshire accusing Romney of another flip-flop on abortion.
The 30-second TV ad features photos of Romney -- one labeled pro-choice, the other pro-life -- that flip back and forth. While he defended a woman's right to choose in campaigns in 1994 and 2002, he has said that conversations with stem cell researchers in 2005 convinced him to oppose abortion. He now calls for overturning the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision.
Romney's campaign claims that both groups have ties to Republican rival Rudy Giuliani's campaign, though both groups deny they talked to the Giuliani campaign about their ad campaigns.

Mr. Romney takes stands of issues in contrast with his parents and church teachings. These are convenient stances such as pro choice. Mr. Romney can't be trusted to stand true to his church convictions and can't be trusted to stand true to the promises he makes to voters. We can't trust him as president.
Bill Brooks, if what you say is right, there should be no candidates that should be voted into office. What do you know of Mr. Romney's church convictions? Each person is at a different level of understanding in relation to church teachings. Should everyone judge you to know more about what his church teaches or should they judge you to know less? Where are you in your understanding of his religious understanding?
Quite frankly, I am quite concerned with a Giuliani presidency. He looks mighty suspicious having the support of these two groups. I certainly hope people do a little bit of research on where these ads are coming from because from the looks of it a gay rights group and an abortion rights groups support would speak volumes for the Guiliani campaign. But, then again, it would appear that the reason why these groups distanced themselves from Guiliani is because they probably don't want to upset his chances with Christian and Moral Conservatives.
Could it possibly be that the reason the MA Log Cabin Republicans and a Pro-Abortion group is launching anti-Romney ads is because they believe his stance on marriage (between one man and one wife) and on abortion is exactly what Mr. Romney is claiming-- that his views are in line with social conservatives and not pro-abortion, pro-gay rights activists?
If you want gay marriage and abortion on demand and still want to vote Republican (I don't know why), then you already have your candidate. Rudy is leading the national polls anyway so why not just join the crowd.
However, for social conservatives, economic conservatives, and Reagan Republicans, then Mitt is your man.
I think this ad is going to help Romney with the social conservatives (at least those that favor a marriage amendment) that are trying to decide between Romney and Huckabee. The old enemy of my enemy is my friend. There is a good chance that the Log Cabin people actually just shot themselves in the foot.
Why do you think that gay-rights and pro-choice groups so oppose Romney? Obviously because they really think he is pro-family and pro-life.
Romney is heads and shoulders above all the other Republican candidates on every conservative issue. Almost six years ago Romney decided firmly against abortion and has not changed his stance--no flip flop there. He isn't telling one group of people one thing and a week later telling another group something else. If you want to know exactly what Romney stands for, google Mitt Romney and read his comments on about every issue--and in video from speeches he has given. He has not deviated one bit from his stated position. It is hard to find something wrong with MItt Romney.
Mitt Romney has my vote!
Romney is very prudent.
If I were able to run a presidential campaign, I'd do just what he's doing "lock step". Where else have we ever seen a more methodical and inspiring campaign.
