Richardson gets Iacocca backing

By Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor November 1, 2007 02:08 PM

Democrat Bill Richardson picked up an interesting endorsement today -- former Chrysler chief and pitchman Lee Iacocca.

In a testimonial posted on Richardson's campaign website, Iacocca praises the presidential candidate's clean energy and jobs programs, saying that Richardson brought the "jobs of tomorrow" to New Mexico and can do the same for the country.

Iacocca also presses an argument that Richardson made during Tuesday night's debate -- that among the Democratic contenders, the New Mexico governor is the only one with CEO experience running a government. The other hopefuls are former or current US senators or representatives.

Iacocca supported John F. Kerry in 2004 and George W. Bush in 2000. But he has soured on Bush, and in the endorsement says he is "fed up" with how the country has been run.
