Biden boasts of experience in new ad

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor December 11, 2007 10:55 AM

Joe Biden, the most experienced Democrat in the running, plays up his resume in a new TV ad in Iowa.

"Being president is not the same thing as running for president," he says in the spot. (Watch it here.)

He then goes on to say that the squabbling about "experience" and "change," which has consumed the campaigns of the leading Democrats -- Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and John Edwards -- is about meaningless political slogans.

Biden brags that his plan for a decentralized Iraq is the only proposal to get through Congress and that when Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf plunged his nation into crisis by declaring a state of emergency, he talked to him before President Bush did.

"You don't have to guess what I'll do as president," he says in the ad. "Just look at what I've done."

The Delaware senator, who has been in office since 1972 and is chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, needs to gain some traction and quick in icy Iowa before the Jan. 3 caucuses to do well enough to stay in the fight.

  1. Um...this piece is obviously slanted against Biden. Using the words "boasts" and "brags" are hardly objective - do you use the same terminology when other candidates run ads talking about their experience?

    Very disappointing.

  1. well noticed guys...kinda funny, how media and polls can manipulate the facts.

Kinda funny how we the people are looking for someone to fight for us from the people, with ACTION, not Talk or Celebrity pepper-rallys or baking cookie parties.

Finally someone with a Plan, an Actual Plan for Iraq...

yet the media/polls/Big. Corp want us to think otherwise...ummm...wonder why?

  1. @ Matt, Sharl :

Slanted against Biden? The first sentence leads with "Joe Biden, the most experienced Democrat in the running." (though I agree brags is kind of loaded)

  1. I think that people should be extra careful how we talk about Biden, because the "big three" get sooooo much coverage that you never know when this might be only the first or second time that some voters hear or read anything about Biden. On the other hand, as a Biden supporter, I am grateful to anyone who gives people a link to the ad!
