Clintons at top of most-admired lists

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor December 26, 2007 12:51 PM

Both Bill and Hillary Clinton, the former president and the presidential candidate, are at the top of Americans' most-admired list, Gallup reported today.

Bill Clinton was picked by 8 percent as the most admired man in the poll, just behind President Bush, who was chosen by 10 percent. Al Gore, Clinton's vice president who lost to Bush in 2000, was ranked third with 6 percent after winning the Nobel Peace Prize this year for his advocacy on addressing global climate change

Hillary Clinton was selected as the most admired woman by 18 percent, just ahead of Oprah Winfrey with 16 percent. Her campaign quickly bragged about the result, noting that she topped the list for the sixth straight year and for the 12th time overall.

"Americans know Hillary has been fighting for children and families for 35 years," campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle said in a statement issued by the Clinton campaign. "They admire her commitment and strength to make change."

Barack Obama, Clinton's main rival for the Democratic nomination, finished fourth among most-admired men, ahead of the Rev. Billy Graham, former South African President Nelson Mandela, and former President George H.W. Bush. And Winfrey, who had her strongest showing this year, is Obama's highest-profile supporter.

The Clintons are appearing together at a kickoff event this afternoon in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, for the stretch run before the Jan. 3 caucuses that could go a long way in determining whether the Clintons will return to the White House, this time with Hillary as president and Bill as first spouse.

The USA Today/Gallup poll was conducted Dec. 14-16 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

  1. Hillary did a good job at being married to a President.
    It's very admirable.

  1. Hey Morons, Bush was #1 with 10% as the most admired. Slick Willy trailed Bush, and came in second. So what does the Globe use as a headline? "CLINTONS TOP POLL".

This is why I cancelled the Globe 2 years ago...EVERYTHING is slanted so far to the left, it's laughable.

You guys are great - thanks for the chuckles.

  1. Your story reminds me of an old joke about an American athlete competing against a Russian athlete and winning. The Russian headline: "Russia comes in 2nd, America next-to-last". What a blatantly biased pile of doggy doo!!!

  1. Even the most detested President in U.S History came ahead of the much ballyhooed, overzealous, and overtly ambitious Senator from Illinois -- who, suprsingly, is in fourth place. Where is Oprah? What's up with this.

  1. Saying the Boston Globe is biased toward libs is like saying the sun comes up in the morning.

There is no use beating this dead horse - libs are what they are, and most "journalists" are libs.

Still and all, it does make you sick to your stomach that they think they can get away with "reporting" such as this, doesn't it?

    Boo, Hiss.

  1. Unbelievable. How do these idiots get away with publishing such blantant lies in their headlines?

President Bush, and not Clinton, came in as #1 in the male category, as has apparently been the case for the past six years. These clods at the Globe should be made to publish a retraction on Page 1, stating that their headline was just plain wrong!!!!!!

Thanks to all of the above for pointing out this paper's bias. And I especially like the comments made in post #3!!!! Clinton came in first, except for the guy who REALLY did so!

  1. Why would the editor-in-chief advertise to the world that his parents were too stupid to teach him Honesty, Ethics and Integrity? Wonder if they are holding their head in shame?

He could prove me wrong, not by telling me, but put it on the front page, ABOVE the fold.

  1. Let's say the Pats beat Dallas in the Super Bowl by 2 points. Will the Globe headline be "Dallas at the top of NFL?"
